Autism and Education: It Happened Again?

Yes, it happened again. We need to find a new school for Michael.

This time I’m not as tired. I’m not as angry. I’m actually quite calm and hopeful.

Michael has left his current school, or as it might be otherwise be described, “Michael is a first-year high school drop out with a 4.0 GPA.” We have a hopeful option we’ll check out next week. For now, we’re enrolled in Kahn Academy (aka free home school), one of our all-time favorites.

Autism School Choice Right Mica Different Brain

We are all moving through this education transition with grace, clarity, and focus, but these transitions haven’t always been this way.

We’ve had to make Drastic Decisions before.

We’ve experienced being Thanked for Not Talking, even when they really were talking (because this is the first sign there are changes to come).

And Unless You’ve Been There Before, you can’t begin to know what it’s like to be rejected by school after school or to have your child be unable to cope and have nowhere to go. I don’t recommend it, but if it’s part of your path, please know you’re not alone.

Huge love to each of you for every big (and small) choice you have to make for your child, especially the ones that deal with education.

I’m with you every step of the way.

Mica

So . . . how many different schools have you been to or has your child been to?

What was the hardest transition?

Are you happy with your child’s school right now?
