You Are Powerful!
There are times as a parent when you realize that your job is not to be the parent you always imagined you’d be, the parent you always wished you had. Your job is to be the parent your child needs, given the particulars of his or her own life and nature.
Ayelet Waldman
Holy Macaroni, if that ain’t the truth, I don’t know what is!
Because that’s exactly what the deal is with raising children who move in a different way. It’s true for all parents, but as parents of Different-Brainers (Aspies, high-functioning autistic kids, etc.), we have lived through the complexities, defeats, humiliations, triumphs, exhilarations, traumas, and pure confusion of raising these children.
Today is a reminder that you have POWER to live your life the way that you want to. Yes, you have to stand up for yourself sometimes, but that makes you stronger when you do it kindly and fully.
Today you are reminded to make one small change you want to, for you and for your family, because you can. You are that powerful—you can create the change you want.
In celebration of your power,
Mica
